remember when the fresh sea air

remember when the fresh sea air
by tanner brockwell

remember when the fresh sea air
traipsed up and down the beach
like a drunken dancer
groovin but movin
a time with time in time
that bump and rush
beware the coconuts
tumbling from the leafy tower
and falling thunk upon the sand
we peeled the husk and tapped a chugging
glug glug a glug of that sweet creamy
sip it trace the lips with white glossiness
and top the cup with icy chunks
douse with milk and stir
until the tingling round glass is chill
and the stirrer frothy wipe
upon your tongue and and taste the raw
sweet sugar from a cane plantation
that we raided in the dim dark moon absent night
and with arms full to sigh we carried them away
our supply our ready bar
our sweet satisfaction
that surprise when both hands touched
and there amongst the sudden
on rush and heady wave
we saw the sunlight peeking up
and there was a gift of new days

dark wing

2008/12/18 in poems

dark wing
by tanner brockwell

dark wing
of midnights cloaked
and sung as crystal eyes
lilting to the sudden rise
where fingers wrap
and pull the moon
to morn she sleeps
and gone so soon
that dawn is reddened ready how
the mists are burnt and skipping flee
across the pounded surf of middle bay
with cold hard and tall rocks and pools
that hid the sheltered world new
in each pulse the world sleeps
and dreams the world has
as dreams it keeps

i am the destroyed

2008/12/18 in poems

i am the destroyed
by tanner brockwell

i am the destroyed
particles of cold dust
footprints in the too late frost
upon the crocuses eager then
that week they pulled back the dirt
seeking warm sunlight
and caught unguarded
by capricious weather
they froze in the night
cold in cold interminable
that soaked the core
and fragile life of dainty petals
gone oh for that destruction

blue in midnight blue

2008/12/04 in poems

blue in midnight blue
by tanner brockwell

blue in midnight blue
all beneath the moon
unfurled a whirl
caught with a breeze
the air is soft and low
and down the tendrils grow
with bloom and petals so
softer than silk
the night is sown
with a thousand tiny seeds
a glitter in the field
and grow and grow
for soon a bud
peeking in the light
a watchful moon
with gentle known
the winds pull
and tug the leaves
lithe they know
without effort
to emerge for reveling
beneath the lights
that shine until
dawn crimson blows

flowers of the sun

2008/12/03 in poems

flowers of the sun
by tanner brockwell

flowers of the sun
remembering every one
the petals in the springtime said
follow the path
as each bud grew
and soon there was a panopy
of hues and grace and space
that was filled with the blooms
of draughts or drops or dew
that washed the flowers
beneath a slivered moon
that in a sense was awed
but still would smile soon
a smile for the dreams it’s true
that floated past the evening dew
and landing like the merest motes
upon the sleeping flowers still
in the mid’night silvery
a sky crossed with hosts
that audience that remembrance
the ancient and the day
all were lost amongst
a thousand thousand
petals and the buds
for sleeping then
and waking soon
for a wonderful
all in bloom

the pulsations of beating wings

2008/11/29 in poems

the pulsations of beating wings
by tanner brockwell

the pulsations of beating wings
lifted not for flight
lifted only for light
gleaning off downy soft
born beneath cold stars
dawn is cold
the edge of drifts malleable
in the caress of a vagrant wind
unfounded even ungrounded
a roving over plain and sky
a roving for winds never die
but twist and so they dash and go
a turn a wisp a blow
then they are away
gone but for the trace
of the drifting snow

cold is the night

2008/11/21 in poems

cold is the night
by tanner brockwell

cold is the night
when comfort shuns
and biting winds blow
biting cold so
that shelter is taken
taken where ever you go
glass windows
glass door
inside a warmth and glow
i will have the pastry then
i will have some coffee
and i will compose my soul
in the waning night

war

2008/11/19 in poems

war
by tanner brockwell

war
the kindred bleed
phosphorescent light
their pores
miniature supernova
radiating
spectrums visible
invisible
their struggle
continent wide
shakes the foundation
of plates tectonic
dull gravelly
dragging consonants out
as if they were dry
lodged teeth
that were designated
vacant empty

tethers

2008/11/18 in poems

tethers
by tanner brockwell

tethers
the once of night
the silent right
the other sight
a welcome day becomes
a welcome night
and crossed with stars
that counting
over and over
amongst strange constellations
we found a single one
and we called it home
