sweeter than and almost

December 25, 2009 in poems by tanner

sweeter than and almost
by tanner brockwell

sweeter than and almost
tang and yang
transported from
cold climes in time
unto the sweet beaches
stirred sultry
the sands bleached timbers
the drifted woods
parched salty dry
washed along the shore
waiting in the ringed tone
carried far from home
shed smooth bark
left the texture finished
kindled on the golden glowing sand
a pure blue flame
almost burning without smoke
creeping runner of flame
runs the entirety
racing higher and higher
the rays falling on the white heat
hot flames burned blue and light
coals to keep all through the night

toes sifting through dry silt

December 23, 2009 in poems by tanner

toes sifting through dry silt
by tanner brockwell

toes sifting through dry silt
on the lake bed
millennial memory
sometimes the rain comes
and winds and sun beat the dirt hard
underfoot under the sky
or if the water is late
the silty dust swirls around
like minute particles of sand
chalky the taste
eyes wrapped against the sharp wind
that cuts through everything
blow you down
blows right through
cooker today
tonight i’ll pull the covers over
cold and loud
the dreams are punctuated by
carnival on overload
this isn’t what it seems
this is not even a dream
waking with the sun
blue sky and the cup ridge hills
that long til now
that now and now is then

the taut stretch of cotton twine

December 21, 2009 in poems by tanner

the taut stretch of cotton twine
by tanner brockwell

the taut stretch of cotton twine
in the backyard on a summer day
tiny folds of meaning
shot skyward disappearing
a whishing noise gone
penciled inside
pictographs and unity
they were suitably gone
until with a plip
the signaled descent
down down down
into waiting hands
and unfolded
read eagerly
examined for minute changes
that would convey a message
like the dance of the stars
or the bent bough of the shore oak
that rustling in the sea breeze
was like a whisper of meaning
that murmured on
and listening forget the world below
but soaring on
in the blue tinged winds above
a small body soaring
carried as much as lead
the small tableau below
forgotten
until with a snap
the wings of fabric
out and in
flutter to sleep

where you go

December 14, 2009 in poems by tanner

where you go
by tanner brockwell

where you go
both poles
of attraction
yield ribbons
of poise
the standing particles
spring and snap
magnetic and yet
where you go
both poles

where is the ship sailing

December 14, 2009 in poems by tanner

where is the ship sailing
by tanner brockwell

where is the ship sailing
with puffed sails
in a pink hearted sunset
blush for a flush
of a tropical kiss
this lightly step underfoot
rolling gentle wave
sea and sand so close at hand
anchors away and say
the falling light
complements the rippled waves
the sands diminishing
towards that great horizon
venus and moon
the north star
dipping into oceans
the pour out a sensation
tropics and winds
caressed the nights skin
pale she shines
this queen tonight

where missing was of late

December 10, 2009 in poems by tanner

where missing was of late
by tanner brockwell

where missing was of late
found the slightly chill
of fallen drops
that washed the view
and washed is true
that daring breech
of fallen feet
could colder come
or freezing leave
thin sheets of black
dark icy slick
three four more
the fallen flakes
lighting upon
the lines of urban neat
the paths are gone
the steps are near though
this late into
the sleepy night
the lights
fuzz and flare
and ah for once
they disappear

in the snow

December 8, 2009 in poems by tanner

in the snow
by tanner brockwell

in the snow
angel
snow
angel
snow

in the low low go
for this
for is
forlorn
for fit

in the blue cast
shine
night is bye
is night
is light

movement moon
around again
gain
feign
forfeit

in the tufts
dried chill
seasons pass
dry
and still
stalk blades

where you go
forgone
for going
left and then
left again

left no right

December 7, 2009 in poems by tanner

left no right
by tanner brockwell

left no right
at the sign turning
up short the red
over cobbled
over streets
that shook like waves
patterns
the wet circles
the depressed rings
holes in then
filled up with water
the arc as wheels
ran through
down and up
muddy cup
there was the a
eh there was the
stone steps with leaded glass
lets look up
the low flown overhead
baby wings
beat for an instance
the seasons past
all grown
all overflown
so so loan
sows the owes the oh
the owl is known
is just begin is
as was as was as is
is in the thin
the thick
the laid up late logs of spring
that cured the summer
and tindered for frost
for cold for slow low in low
they caught
and flared in the iron
in the touch ouch hot metal
the warmth the wrap the shawl
the rounding keep
for night is long in dark in sleep

here take this fast

December 4, 2009 in poems by tanner

here take this fast
by tanner brockwell

here take this fast
when the sullen moon
yellow in the sky peeked
from hazy shrouds
hooray the missed stress
only a slow rise drawn
out and out as sailing by
the moon in vessel set
the moon a passage yet
the pastel tint of widening sky
the rise of sun the flying day
earshot met a crying howl
the fantastic cries of cryptic tone
the forest stirs it slept a bit
full force of phantom steps
that pad about in frequent wise
mysteries and frequencies
all the while invisible
