by the light
by tanner brockwell (cc) 2007

by the light
from yonder high
slipping into the night
unusual yet discreet
that is before i would sleep
i feel an urge to wander
beneath the silver time
oh for i have left the ticking
ticking in another time
the world is another shade
yet is no thing surely fixed
i am out a’wandering
footfalls and the glint
of every silver facet
but i am far — far from the sea
the waters and the deep
that i am only longing
longing for to see
take a chance in darkness now
the chance is more than steep
that wishes wished could come more true
true enough to meet
