hear the surf
by tanner brockwell
hear the surf
the echoing sound
of the salt sea
rolling a world away
until there is water
water everywhere
and there the wet sands
tanging scent on the air
like fresh days
new ways
and across the sand
the small prints
of tiny feet
left as semi-permanent marks
a cleft and clew
where light dances
around the edge
of the tripping path
that scrawls along the beach
steps that could be taken
a time now to awaken
and running along that shore
breathe the life
and sing
this is a new morning
this is a new sun
