i wouldn’t
by tanner brockwell

i wouldn’t
the dark skies overing
i wouldn’t
the night colder still
i wouldn’t
the feelings of emptiness
i wouldn’t

i couldn’t
the sliding tide
i couldn’t
the powdered sand
i couldn’t
the screaming overhead
i couldn’t

i shouldn’t
linger before dawn
i shouldn’t
allow a good day gone
i shouldn’t
find all those missing minutes
i shouldn’t

but i will
abrade these toes
but i will
soak them in a surf
but i will
jog until the moon fly’s
but i will
