sleepless in the late
by tanner brockwell
sleepless in the late
the soft form departed
the bed half full
toss and turn
dreams of salty waves
before the sands
were hot and dry
white light and storm
pelted down and down
leaving a slurry of possibilities
scrinched between toes
running left steps
liquid and malleable
in the shoreline path
winding out past the dark rocks
that stood slick with algae
when the tides had retreated
leaving tidal pools
ignorant of consequence
knowing only the bounded world
circumscribed
wet seas upon a sandy shore
washed up and then
dragged back out again
