survive
by tanner brockwell
survive
there amongst the footrace
of the worn stone blocks
pieces of history
laid out laid low
markers of miles
pounding steps of distance
running with the fire
ice in the lungs
this is good
the slant hour of sun
before set is nigh
carving silhouettes
against a serious sky
and once there were tools
and once hands would work
so this is life and so we thrive
foot runners in an endless pace
running for life a life out of place
that tears up the dust
throws in your face
the past foot falls are gone
night is a shelter
with flickering friends
night has a cloak
a desire to mend
the tinder’s are warm
airy sparks wiss
that rolling front against
a rolling wheel
luna is flying
ever near highing
a savor of star dusting
stars are the weft
thrown across dreams
