was there an echo on the wind
by tanner brockwell (cc) 2007

was there an echo on the wind
and all the while my dreams were slipping
into the night
into the dark
into the most majestic
i’d reach to grab the stars
but my feet are planted
call them roots
gnarled and worn
the elements five times exposed
each took a toll
but roots could be uprooted see
then walk the earth
one step too many before
before before the odd refrain
like echos on the air
light reflective
calm while you listen
reverberated restated and inquiry
then command
the outworn and tired
i lift from you
the simple gift
though simple too
no earth is this that call you home
but the tesseracted still refracted
gaze where the shadows freeze
and sunlight bakes
