we find the metal arch
by tanner brockwell

we find the metal arch
subdued with age
paint a memory
the surface is rough with rust
the dull somber hue deep
jagged edge of shiny glass
the silhouette caught in fading sun
the wheel wells pentagonal bolts
crumbly dark rubber a shadow
the interior is bleached white
sun has passing wiped all color
what is the mode
what for motion was this size
but later days a carriage
the conquerors chariot
bristling with intent
bearing upon destinations
as after thoughts
in a migratory journey cyclical
mileposts oblivious
became the blurred scenery of passings
