what object of man

13:20 in poems by Tanner

what object of man
by tanner brockwell

what object of man
it takes
it bakes
the silver stars yet
yet have they kissed the land
forever is never
and never is a long long time
lost threads
well read
into the loose ends
that slip
perchance a hit
or missed
upon the shores of deadly night
there is a pattern
so so unique
it is a pattering
rain against a tin roof serenade
and rest for
the day is finished
