when you wish upon a falling

09:27 in poems by Tanner

when you wish upon a falling
by tanner brockwell

when you wish upon a falling
star
the brusque coldness
between shoulders
a flying fire
could not aspire

when you wish upon a silky
blackness
the temerity of ice waves
that held dancing foam
bubbled spheres of time
bound for anywhere

when you wish upon a heart
sigh
without you or within
this strength is all same
stated trunk so tall
years and years til now

when you wish upon the deep
main
the plank topped waves
gunwaled about stood for speed
and sailed to uncertain ports
hard tack and bread supplied

when you wish upon a falling
star
unquenched burns
beneath the rippled rolling
chill cold dark of this sea
this fire burning
