where the wilds roam

where the wilds roam
by tanner brockwell

where the wilds roam
so far to be
so far from home
satchel coat and waders
graphite rod
fly fish fly
the icy waters flow
from the cascade even though
spring is in the air
spring is almost here
slip coat and let the breeze
sigh across your chest
this is the sigh
of openness and less
an all surrounding gyre
after air than build
build yet the fire
with drift limb or trunk
the guides of years so far
and left upon this rocky bed
so far from where these steps have led
you pick and stack
you choose and wait
the kindled spark
becomes something great
and turning whipping
hungry grow
this is the fire
and this is even so
a moment
this breath
prepare a meal for quick repast
and the fire at your back
has an even match
as the sun falls slowly
gracefully to expire

gorgeous imagery… loved how these lines came together
“slip coat and let the breeze

    this is the sigh
