wishes we had wished
by tanner brockwell (cc) 2007

wishes we had wished
long in the night
the tangled roots gripping
where our utterances rebound
oh shameless sight
when the winds shake the boughs
a deep and breathing sigh
oh companion mine
these fast and weary limbs
have you supped complete
on a banquet deep
so motions sending higher
where only feathers fly
the glint of shining arms
a welcome like a star
i say there is passion
but this a great fire
consumes those who taste
and so the world leaves
ever the night winds
yet they shine forever
