dreamt the symbols

March 19, 2009 in poems by tanner

dreamt the symbols
by tanner brockwell

dreamt the symbols
of clime for once
immutably strange
they were glyphs
of passing fronts
rising lowering
ready me for warmth
and culpably feign
not new quarters
only the repetition
of a string of days
strung as orbs
upon the weft
of a silken home
dancing as new dawn
with westerly
sparkles and laughs
rapt attend this is unique
this is when
the last night change
drifts into dimming memory
that newest and fine
a remarkable thing
any old time
is a newly won prize
so rightly here
so awesomely see
this is wonderous and free

pray do tell

December 19, 2008 in poems by tanner

pray do tell
by tanner brockwell

pray do tell
the quirks and feebles
that make you your heartbeat
alive inside willing
to dance the jig
heels up and down
pounding the floor
there is no tomorrow
then that dawn will be
no emptier than begun
or full of life inside
creeping sunlight
fell across the hills
touching the dew
set in the night alight
and gleams crystal strand
upon the webs upon the door sill
where e’en sprites fell
in a mirthful dance
upon the threshold of a doorway
where light bounding fell outside
and the fire in was sparking and warm
take a tipple a sip and shout hoh
chasing dreams in the fading embers

blue in midnight blue

December 4, 2008 in poems by tanner

blue in midnight blue
by tanner brockwell

blue in midnight blue
all beneath the moon
unfurled a whirl
caught with a breeze
the air is soft and low
and down the tendrils grow
with bloom and petals so
softer than silk
the night is sown
with a thousand tiny seeds
a glitter in the field
and grow and grow
for soon a bud
peeking in the light
a watchful moon
with gentle known
the winds pull
and tug the leaves
lithe they know
without effort
to emerge for reveling
beneath the lights
that shine until
dawn crimson blows

for each buzz

October 20, 2008 in poems by tanner

for each buzz
by tanner brockwell

for each buzz
the reach of
the beach
because
the dawn is light
there after night
and findings flit
in the inner gift
the outer edge
of hidden arms
and hidden swarms
puffin cloud appear
wishing sweetness near
lost morning comber
in beach set
beyond the shore end
finding mornings when
fog and mist lift

after the hands crossed

June 10, 2008 in poems by tanner

after the hands crossed
by tanner brockwell

after the hands crossed
the winds were still
sandy gravel crushed
beneath hard heels
and the steel curve
of the open bonnet
awed with radiator hoses
a sick cough
the battery near empty
deionized or distilled
grabbed spring could be worse
glugging into full
turn it over
and over
toomucheffortigive
velocity of the cylinders
crunchy smoke filled air
throaty depth
woarrrrrrrrrrrrr
there were a hundred stories
each teller
eyes wide exclaimed
the dust moves the night
pushing on to dawn
